Somali Embassy Condemns Youth Who Disrespected Kenyan Flag After Nyayo Football Match

The Somali Embassy in Nairobi has strongly condemned the actions of a group of Somali youth who were captured on video desecrating the Kenyan national flag after a recent football match involving Mogadishu City Club.

In a statement, the Embassy described the incident as “regrettable and unacceptable,” stressing that the behavior does not reflect the values of the Somali people nor the spirit of friendship between Somalia and Kenya.

“We strongly condemn the disrespect shown to the Kenyan flag by a few individuals. Their actions do not represent our youth, our athletes, or the proud history of cooperation between our nations,” the Embassy said.

Underscoring the significance of the Kenyan flag as a symbol of sovereignty, unity, and dignity, the Embassy assured that Somali authorities remain committed to fostering mutual respect and peaceful coexistence.

The condemnation comes at a time when Somalia and Kenya are working to strengthen ties in trade, education, cultural exchange, and regional security. Both countries have recently reaffirmed their partnership in building stability and prosperity in the Horn of Africa.

The Embassy further commended the Kenya Police Service, Kenya Police FC Administration, the Football Kenya Federation (FKF), and Sports Kenya for ensuring safety and order during the tournament.

Calling for restraint among fans, the Embassy reminded all communities that football should serve as a bridge of unity rather than division, and reaffirmed its commitment to upholding the values of respect and brotherhood.
