Gladys Wanga Endorses Rosemary Okuta for Nairobi ODM Chairlady Seat

Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga has thrown her weight behind Rosemary Okuta in the race for Nairobi ODM Chairlady, a move expected to shake up the city’s grassroots politics.

Speaking at a women’s forum in Nairobi, Wanga praised Okuta as a committed leader who embodies the values of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and has the capacity to unite the party’s women wing in the capital.

“Rosemary is a true fighter for women and youth. Nairobi needs her kind of leadership – transparent, inclusive and people-driven,”

Her endorsement comes amid growing discontent within ODM Nairobi women ranks, who have been pushing for fresh grassroots elections to replace current chairlady Catherine Okoth. Several groups have accused Okoth of poor leadership and called for change ahead of ODM’s upcoming 20th anniversary celebrations.

Rosemary Okuta, who has been receiving backing from women across constituencies such as Ruaraka, Embakasi and Kibra, welcomed Wanga’s support, saying it signals a new dawn for ODM women in Nairobi.

“This is not about me, it’s about giving ODM women in Nairobi the leadership they deserve. I am ready to serve with integrity and deliver,” Okuta said.

With Wanga’s endorsement, Okuta’s candidacy is expected to gain momentum as the Nairobi ODM women gear up for what could be a defining election.
