Millie Odhiambo Hits Out at Catherine Okoth, Says ODM Nominations Not Lifetime Posts

Suba North MP Millie Odhiambo has launched a scathing attack on long-serving ODM Nairobi Chairlady Catherine Okoth, accusing her of clinging to nomination slots instead of seeking an elective mandate.

Through her social media account Odhiambo, said she will table legislation to limit the number of times an individual can be nominated, warning that the practice is undermining the original purpose of affirmative action.

“It beats the purpose for which affirmative action was created if one person is nominated every election cycle,” Odhiambo said. “The nomination serves as a launching pad, and once or twice is enough. After that, please go for a competitive seat.”

Her remarks were interpreted as a direct swipe at Okoth, who has been ODM Nairobi Chairlady for over 20 years and currently serves as a nominated MCA.

The outspoken MP argued that nomination slots should open doors for more women and marginalized groups, not act as a permanent safety net for a few individuals.

Grassroots members have also been raising similar concerns, accusing party elites of recycling the same names while shutting out fresh leadership.

Odhiambo’s stance is expected to fuel calls for reform within ODM, potentially intensifying internal battles ahead of upcoming grassroots elections.
