ODM Women Demand Grassroots Elections to Kick Out Catherine Okoth Before 20th Anniversary Celebration

A section of women leaders in the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Nairobi branch have demanded immediate grassroots elections to remove current Chairlady Catherine Okoth, accusing her of poor leadership and nepotism.

The women, led by leaders from Ruaraka and other constituencies, said the party could not head into its 20th anniversary celebrations under what they described as “failed and selfish leadership.” They claimed that Okoth had sidelined loyal members, mismanaged party structures, and promoted favoritism at the expense of inclusivity.

“We cannot celebrate ODM’s two decades of struggle and democracy with Catherine Okoth still at the helm in Nairobi. Her leadership has divided women and weakened our structures,” said one of the leaders, adding that the women want the elections held immediately to restore order.

The group has rallied behind Rosemary Okuta as their preferred choice for Nairobi Chairlady, saying she represents a fresh start and genuine grassroots leadership.

They warned that if the party headquarters ignores their calls, they would stage protests and boycott anniversary events in Nairobi.

“Our message to the national leadership is clear: conduct grassroots elections before the 20th anniversary. Nairobi ODM women want change, and the change is Rosemary Okuta,” they said.
