People's Liberation Party Endorses Martha Karua for 2027 Presidential Bid, Vows to Reclaim Kenya’s Republic

The People's Liberation Party (PLP) has formally positioned itself for the 2027 General Elections by unanimously endorsing its Party Leader, Hon. Martha Karua, SC, as its presidential candidate. The historic announcement was made during a Special National Delegates Conference held on September 26, 2025, at Ufungamano House in Nairobi.

Hon. Karua framed her declaration not merely as a candidacy announcement but as a transformative commitment to Kenya’s future. She described the gathering as "a declaration, a promise, and a turning point in our nation's journey toward justice, unity, and dignity."

Sharply criticizing the current administration, Karua cited a "betrayal of trust, our institutions, and the people's hope." She accused the incumbents of prioritizing "corruption over integrity, impunity over justice, and propaganda over service," underscoring that "Kenyans are hurting, and Kenyans deserve better." She acknowledged the presence of allied parties including the Wiper Patriotic Front, the Democracy for Citizens Party, DAP-K, and Jubilee, emphasizing that "Unity is not a choice. It is our duty to the people of Kenya."

Central to PLP’s platform is the restoration of the rule of law and eradication of corruption. Karua denounced corruption as "the enemy of progress, the saboteur of dreams, and the thief of opportunity," promising that under her leadership, "the corrupt will face justice, regardless of their rank, tribe, or political affiliation. Impunity will end."

Karua pledged a government that guarantees the security and dignity of every Kenyan, vowing that citizens will "never again" disappear and mothers will "never again" weep for children taken by abductions. The party also commits to valuing professionals, including teachers, doctors, nurses, and civil servants, ensuring their rights, labor, and livelihoods are protected.

The PLP envisions fairness and opportunity for all, including reforming taxation into a fair contribution tied to real services and empowering Kenya’s 7.4 million Small and Medium Enterprises. The party also promises quality universal healthcare, accessible education from early childhood to university, and agricultural revitalization through credit, markets, and technology to transform subsistence farming into productive enterprises.

The conference ratified key organizational reforms under the campaign banner "Unite. Liberate. Transform." This included the creation of three deputy party leader positions to ensure broad representation, shared leadership, and improved coordination, as well as a sixteen-member Shadow Cabinet to offer proactive policy alternatives and citizen-centered solutions.

Accepting the nomination, Karua declared, "I only need one term to return Kenya to the right path," committing to restore integrity, depoliticize governance, and set Kenya on a trajectory where leadership serves the people. The conference concluded with the rallying cry, "We are One People, One Purpose, One Term." Secretary General Asha Bashir affirmed that the journey to liberation has begun, promising collaboration with all stakeholders to build a Kenya grounded in justice, equality, and prosperity.
