Cabinet Secretary for Environment, Climate Change and Forestry, Deborah Barasa, noted that the Summit comes at a crucial period when Kenya is strengthening its climate governance framework and pushing forward national ambitions aligned with global priorities.
“This year’s Climate Action Summit comes at a defining moment as Kenya continues to strengthen her climate governance framework and advance the implementation of the Nairobi Declaration’s vision,” Barasa said.
She added that the Summit presents a critical opportunity to align Kenya’s climate strategies with international commitments, reinforcing efforts to transition toward a sustainable and inclusive green economy.
“This Summit provides a critical platform to align our national priorities with global commitments and to accelerate the transition to a sustainable, inclusive, and climate-resilient Kenya,” she stated.
Nairobi Rivers Commission Chairperson Hon. Bishop Margaret Wanjiru highlighted the success of integrated environmental approaches, citing ongoing rehabilitation efforts across the Nairobi River Basin.
“We see firsthand how integrated, multisectoral approaches can deliver tangible results. Through the Nairobi River Regeneration Project, we have witnessed how environmental restoration can drive urban renewal, social inclusion and economic empowerment, especially for our youth and riverine communities,” Wanjiru said.
She emphasized that the outcomes of the Summit will significantly contribute to Kenya’s global climate reporting and showcase progress in key areas including clean energy transition, locally-led adaptation, and river basin management.
“This is the spirit of collective action that this Summit seeks to replicate and scale across the country,” she added.
The Climate Action Summit continues to rally national and grassroots actors as Kenya positions itself as a leader in climate solutions and ecosystem protection.
