Why Nairobi ODM Women Have Endorsed Rosemary Okuta for Chairlady
NAIROBI, Kenya — Nairobi women leaders within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) have rallied behind Rosemary Okuta, declaring her the right leader to restore transparency, unity, and inclusivity in the party’s Nairobi branch.
In a meeting that brought together women delegates from all 17 constituencies in Nairobi, the leaders said they chose Okuta because of her visionary leadership, clean record, and unwavering commitment to empowering women and youth within the party.
“We believe Rosemary Okuta embodies the change ODM Nairobi has been waiting for,” said one of the delegates. “She listens, she unites, and she stands for fairness — values that have been missing for far too long.”
Okuta, who has built her reputation as a grassroots mobilizer and reformist voice within ODM, pledged to bring fresh energy to the Nairobi branch if elected Chairlady. She said her leadership would prioritize rebuilding trust among members and ensuring that women and youth have meaningful representation in all party organs.
“The women of Nairobi have spoken, and I’m deeply humbled by their confidence,” Okuta said. “My goal is to create a leadership that reflects the diversity, energy, and integrity of our great city.”
The endorsement comes amid growing calls for generational change in ODM Nairobi, where long-serving officials have dominated leadership for over 20 years. The women leaders said Okuta’s candidacy symbolizes a new era of openness and renewal in the party.
They praised her agenda, which focuses on strengthening grassroots structures, promoting women’s participation, and ensuring fair internal elections — reforms they say are vital for ODM’s success ahead of the 2027 polls.
“For two decades, we’ve seen the same faces and the same problems,” said another delegate. “Rosemary Okuta is different — she represents a future where Nairobi ODM belongs to its members, not a few individuals.”
With the endorsement from ODM Nairobi women, Okuta’s campaign continues to gain momentum, positioning her as a strong favorite to lead the county branch and reshape the party’s future direction in the capital.
