ODM at 20: Incoming ODM Nairobi Chairlady Rosemary Okuta Calls for Youth Inclusion and Party Renewal
As the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) marks its 20th anniversary, incoming Nairobi Chairlady Rosemary Okuta has called for a renewed focus on youth and women inclusion in party leadership and decision-making.
Speaking during the ODM@20 celebrations, Okuta said the milestone provides an opportunity for reflection, reform, and recommitment to the ideals of democracy, justice, and equality that have defined the party since its formation in 2005.
“ODM has been the face of Kenya’s democratic struggle for two decades. But for us to remain relevant for the next twenty years, we must open more doors for young people and women to lead from the front,” she stated.
Okuta, who has been at the forefront of mobilizing women and youth across Nairobi’s informal settlements, emphasized that the party must adapt to modern political realities by embracing innovation and grassroots empowerment.
She lauded ODM leader Raila Odinga for his consistency and resilience in championing democratic reforms, describing him as “a father of modern Kenya whose vision continues to inspire generations.”
The incoming chairlady also urged party members to remain united as the country heads toward the 2027 General Election, saying ODM must project strength and purpose.
“Our unity is our biggest weapon. If we work together as one family, ODM will continue to set the political agenda for this nation,” Okuta said.
The ODM@20 celebrations brought together leaders, delegates, and supporters from across the country to honor the party’s journey, from its founding years under the reform movement to its current position as one of Kenya’s most influential political forces.
