Zamara Launches Specialized Insurance Products for Kenyan Lawyers at LSK Annual Conference

By Grace Mwende

Zamara, a key player in pension, insurance, and actuarial services, has unveiled a range of new products tailored for Kenyan lawyers at the ongoing Law Society of Kenya (LSK) Annual Conference. The company’s General Manager, Aleem Akbarali, shared details about these offerings, which are designed to address the specific needs of legal professionals across different stages of their careers.

“We're thrilled to be here at the conference to highlight and support our partnership with Wakili Solutions,” said Akbarali. Wakili Solutions is a product specifically created for lawyers, offering essential tools and resources to support both their professional and personal lives.

Throughout the conference, Zamara has actively engaged with both senior and young lawyers, focusing on the importance of succession planning. Akbarali stressed the need for younger lawyers to understand and implement effective succession strategies. “It’s crucial to educate members, especially younger lawyers, on how to better prepare for the future—both for themselves and their families—through proper succession planning,” he noted.

In the morning, Zamara’s discussions centered around succession planning with senior lawyers. The afternoon session shifted to younger lawyers, where Zamara presented solutions aimed at supporting them throughout their careers.

Akbarali highlighted several new products, including:

1. **Professional Indemnity Cover:** In recognition of the mandatory nature of professional indemnity for lawyers, Zamara is developing a comprehensive cover that also includes life last expense and personal accident insurance. This product is designed to provide financial security to lawyers and their families in the event of unforeseen circumstances that might hinder their ability to practice.

2. **Medical Insurance Options:** Zamara is introducing three types of medical insurance covers: local, regional, and international. These flexible plans allow lawyers to choose the option that best suits their needs, with minimal underwriting requirements and enhanced benefits, thanks to economies of scale.

3. **Self-Contribution Pension Fund:** Tailored for self-employed lawyers, this pension fund also serves as a life cover. Starting with contributions as low as KSh 650,000, this fund can convert into a life cover ranging from KSh 650,000 to KSh 15 million, depending on the total amount contributed.

Akbarali emphasized that these products are being refined based on feedback from LSK members to ensure they meet the unique needs of the legal community. “We’re gathering feedback from members and visitors at our booth to help us design better products and strengthen our partnership with the Law Society of Kenya,” he said.

The LSK Annual Conference continues to serve as a critical platform for legal professionals, with Zamara playing a key role in providing innovative solutions tailored to the needs of the profession.
