OMAR ADEN DECLARES BID FOR KAMUKUNJI MP SEAT, PROMISES PEOPLE-CENTRED LEADERSHIP

NAIROBI, Kenya – September 2026 — Community leader and businessman Hon. Omar Aden has announced his intention to contest the Kamukunji Constituency parliamentary seat in the 2027 General Election on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket.

Addressing supporters in Kamukunji, Aden said his political agenda would centre on unity, accountable leadership, economic empowerment and improved service delivery, with a particular focus on what he described as the everyday needs and aspirations of residents.

Kenya’s 2027 General Election is scheduled for 10 August 2027, according to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

Aden said his campaign would seek to offer what he termed a new approach to representation, arguing that residents should assess leaders on their record of service and engagement with the community rather than political party affiliation alone.

«“The people of Kamukunji are tired. They are tired of empty promises and they want real change. Our campaign is about the people, not about parties. The people of Kamukunji vote for individuals who deliver, not party labels,” Aden said.»

A Call for Unity in Kamukunji

A central theme of Aden’s message was the need to preserve unity among Kamukunji’s diverse communities.

He pointed to the longstanding social, cultural and economic interaction between the Somali and Kikuyu communities as an example of the coexistence that he said should continue to define the constituency.

«“The Kikuyu and the Somali are brothers and sisters. We have lived together, worked together, and built this great constituency together. My message is simple: Kamukunji belongs to all of us, and together we will build a prosperous future,” he said.»

Aden said his proposed leadership would seek to bring different communities and interest groups together around shared development priorities, rather than allowing political differences to undermine cohesion.

Youth, Enterprise and Security Among Key Priorities

Outlining his agenda, Aden identified youth empowerment, support for small and medium-sized businesses, security, education and improved public services among the issues he intends to prioritise if elected.

He specifically cited the commercial centres of Eastleigh and Majengo, saying his administration would seek to strengthen the business environment and create greater opportunities for young people and entrepreneurs.

Aden also proposed a two-term development agenda, arguing that sustained leadership would be necessary to implement his vision for the constituency.

«“We are not cowards. We are ready to lead and to be held accountable. We are saying one term is not enough to transform Kamukunji, but two terms of focused, people-centred leadership will deliver the Kamukunji we all want,” he stated.»

His emphasis on accountability and inclusive governance broadly aligns with principles contained in the published UDA party constitution, which lists good governance, accountability, transparency, unity and inclusivity among the party’s stated principles.

Constituency-Wide Listening Tour

As part of his preparations for the 2027 contest, Aden said he will soon begin a constituency-wide listening tour designed to engage residents directly and gather views on the challenges facing different communities and neighbourhoods within Kamukunji.

The tour is expected to focus on listening to residents, identifying development priorities and building a constituency agenda around issues raised at the grassroots level.

Aden’s declaration places him among political aspirants positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 parliamentary contest, with the nomination process for party candidates expected to take place within the electoral timetable established by the IEBC.
