Jubilee Calls for Single Opposition Candidate in Ol Kalou By-Election

The Jubilee Party has appealed for a unified opposition front in the forthcoming Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election, urging its coalition partners to back one candidate under its banner.
In a statement released by Secretary General Moitale Ole Kenta, the party framed the by-election as a crucial opportunity for opposition leaders to demonstrate cohesion and offer a credible alternative to the government.
“This is a defining moment for the opposition… Kenyans are increasingly vocal and resolute in their demand for unity of purpose,” the statement said.
The by-election follows the death of David Kiaraho, a Jubilee legislator, whom the party described as “a leader whose life was defined by humility, service, and an unbreakable bond with the people he represented” in Ol Kalou Constituency.
While confirming it will field a candidate, Jubilee maintained that its position is justified by the fact that the seat was previously held by one of its members. It also assured constituents that its nominations process will be transparent and democratic.
“The Party assures its members and the entire people of Ol Kalou Constituency of free, fair, and transparent nominations that reflect democratic values and the will of the people,” Kenta said.
At the same time, the party emphasized the need for cooperation among opposition players, calling on partners to avoid competition that could split votes.
“In the spirit of building a credible, united, and formidable alternative government, Jubilee Party respectfully urges our coalition partners to support the fielding of a single opposition candidate under the Jubilee Party banner,” the statement added.
Jubilee cited previous instances where it backed joint candidates, including in Mbeere North Constituency and Emurua Dikirr Constituency, saying the strategy reflects its commitment to unity within the United Alternative Government coalition.
“This approach is intentional, principled, and aligned with the expectations of Kenyans who are calling on us to act as one and present a credible alternative,” the party noted.
Looking ahead to the 2027 General Election, Jubilee declared it will contest all elective seats nationwide.
“For the avoidance of doubt… Jubilee Party will field candidates in all electoral positions all over the country, from the MCAs to the President,” the statement said.
