Dr. Damaris Maweu: Pharmacist, Philanthropist and UDA Aspirant Seeking to Represent Makueni Women
As the political landscape ahead of the next General Election begins to take shape, Dr. Damaris Maweu is emerging as one of the new faces seeking to represent the women of Makueni County in the National Assembly.
Running on the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket, Dr. Maweu is positioning herself as a leader who blends professional expertise, entrepreneurship and grassroots community work.
A Pharmacist with an Entrepreneurial Spirit
Dr. Maweu is a trained pharmacist and entrepreneur who founded Daroma Chemist, a pharmaceutical business built on the vision of improving access to healthcare services.
After studying pharmacy at Mount Kenya University, she began her career working in various pharmacies where she gained practical experience in the healthcare sector.
Her exposure to patients and communities seeking medical help shaped her understanding of the healthcare challenges facing many Kenyan families.
Over time, she transitioned from employment to entrepreneurship, establishing her own chemist business while maintaining close interaction with communities in need of healthcare guidance and affordable medicine.
Beyond her professional life, Dr. Maweu is also the founder of the Damaris Maweu Foundation, an initiative that focuses on supporting vulnerable groups including women, youth, widows, the elderly and children from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Through mentorship programs, community outreach and empowerment activities, the foundation seeks to uplift communities and create opportunities for those who often struggle to access education, healthcare and economic empowerment.
Her supporters say these grassroots engagements have shaped her understanding of the social and economic challenges affecting women and families in rural communities.
Dr. Maweu now hopes to translate her professional and community experience into public service by seeking the Woman Representative seat for Makueni County in the upcoming General Election.
If elected, she says her focus will be on programs that empower women economically, improve access to healthcare services and create opportunities for youth.
Her campaign also aligns with the development agenda of the United Democratic Alliance, the ruling party under President William Ruto.
As she introduces herself to voters across Makueni County, Dr. Maweu presents herself as a leader driven by service, professionalism and community empowerment.
With a background in healthcare, business and philanthropy, she hopes to convince residents that her experience and passion for helping others make her the right choice to represent the county’s women in Parliament.
