Kenya Makes History as Nyayo Stadium Hosts First FIFA Women’s Series in April
Kenya is set to make history as Nyayo National Stadium prepares to host the first FIFA Women’s Series from April 11 to 15, 2026, featuring national teams from Australia, India, Malawi, and host nation Kenya.
The announcement was made by Hon. Salim Mvurya, Cabinet Secretary for Sports, who hailed the selection as a major vote of confidence in Kenya’s ability to host world-class sporting events.
“This is a proud moment for our nation. Our Harambee Starlets will carry the hopes of all Kenyans, and I am confident they will shine on home soil,” CS Mvurya said.
Meanwhile, the Harambee Stars are in Kigali, Rwanda, competing in the FIFA Series Men’s matches to build performance and team cohesion ahead of future tournaments.
The FIFA Women’s Series provides a platform to showcase emerging talent and strengthen Kenya’s global football profile.
Kenya is also among 48 national teams participating in FIFA’s International Friendly Series, which offers players international exposure and helps develop competitiveness on and off the pitch.
CS Mvurya highlighted Kenya’s proven record in hosting major events, including the African Nations Championship (CHAN), HSBC World Rugby Sevens, Magical Kenya Open, and the WRC Safari Rally.
The tournament also serves as a key preparation for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2027, which Kenya will co-host with Uganda and Tanzania.
Government investments in sports infrastructure, including upgrades to Nyayo and Kasarani Stadiums and construction of the Raila Odinga International Stadium at the Talanta Sports Complex, have positioned the country to meet international standards.
Initiatives to nurture talent from grassroots to elite levels through academies, school programs, and collaborations with federations are also underway.
CS Mvurya praised public-private partnerships and reforms such as the Sports Bill 2026 and Stadium Management Framework, which have strengthened governance and transparency.
He urged Kenyans to fill Nyayo Stadium and support the Harambee Starlets, showcasing the nation’s unity, hospitality, and passion for football.
“Let us make this tournament a resounding success and continue building Kenya’s legacy as a global sporting powerhouse,” CS Mvurya said.
