Speaker Mbilu Accuses CS Alfred Mutua of Using Kalonzo to Gain Popularity in Ukambani

Makueni County Speaker Douglas Mbilu has launched a scathing attack on Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua, accusing him of leveraging the name of Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka to gain political traction in the Ukambani region.

Speaking during a public forum, Mbilu alleged that Mutua's recent moves, including a Kamba leaders' meeting in Maanzoni, were calculated attempts to exploit Kalonzo's popularity. According to Mbilu, Mutua's public call for respect for Kalonzo during the meeting was a strategic ploy to ensure he was taken seriously by local leaders and residents.

“Mutua is very smart. When he called for a meeting in Maanzoni, he realized that people would not listen to him without including Kalonzo,” Mbilu said. He further claimed that Mutua's appeal for Kalonzo's respect was merely a means to garner attention and legitimacy in the region, which has traditionally been a Wiper Party stronghold.

Mbilu also accused Mutua of using financial incentives to stage such meetings, alleging that attendees were paid to participate and take photos to create the impression that the Kenya Kwanza government enjoys widespread support in Ukambani.

“Mutua is paying people to attend these meetings and take pictures to show that Kenya Kwanza is popular in Ukambani. He knows that if he does not call for such meetings, he risks losing his job because that is one of his roles in the Kenya Kwanza government,” Mbilu asserted.

The speaker also questioned the absence of some Kenya Kwanza leaders from the region at the Maanzoni meeting, suggesting that they deliberately stayed away to protect their reputation among their constituents.

“These leaders know that attending such meetings would endanger their popularity with their electorates,” Mbilu remarked.

Reiterating his support for Wiper, Mbilu declared that Ukambani politics must revolve around the party and warned Mutua against sidelining it. “Kambas are in Wiper, and any political decisions in this region must involve Wiper,” he concluded.

The allegations are likely to heighten tensions between the Kenya Kwanza administration and Wiper Party leaders, as the political dynamics in Ukambani continue to take center stage. CS Alfred Mutua is yet to respond to the accusations.
