Kenya Pushes for Stronger Collaboration to Unlock Space Economy at 2025 Innovation Forum
The Secretary Administration in the Ministry of Defence, Mr. Isaac Masinde, delivered a rallying call for deeper collaboration, innovation, and investment in Kenya’s emerging space sector.
Speaking on behalf of the Principal Secretary for Defence during the official opening of the Kenya Space Innovation and Investment Forum 2025, he said Kenya must strengthen partnerships between government, academia, industry, and international actors to unlock the full potential of its space economy.
He praised the forum's participants—drawn from academia, young professionals, innovators, investors, and global space stakeholders—saying their expertise is essential for advancing Kenya’s ambitions in the rapidly growing global space industry.
“This forum provides an excellent opportunity to learn, share ideas, and explore solutions that can take our space sector to the next level,” he said.
“Unlocking the full potential of our space economy requires enhanced cooperation, knowledge exchange, innovative solutions, and investment.”
He noted that the space sector is becoming increasingly central to national development, underpinning essential services and contributing to economic expansion, security, environmental monitoring, and technological innovation.
He emphasized that countries around the world are prioritizing space capabilities, creating a global space economy valued at over USD 600 billion—an opportunity Kenya cannot afford to ignore.
Kenya, he added, is already implementing significant initiatives to boost its space capabilities, including infrastructure development, human capital growth, and policies aimed at attracting investment and strengthening international partnerships.
He highlighted ongoing projects such as satellite development, space science training, and the expansion of technological capacity as key indicators of the country’s commitment.
He further urged participants to make full use of the two-day event by engaging in meaningful dialogue, exchanging insights, and generating recommendations to inform future policy decisions.
“This forum brings together brilliant minds whose contributions will shape how Kenya positions itself in the global space arena,” he said. “We look forward to actionable recommendations and strengthened partnerships that will propel our space sector forward.”
He commended the Kenya Space Agency for hosting the forum and reaffirmed the Ministry of Defence’s commitment to supporting innovation, research, and investment in space science and technology.
With those remarks, he officially declared the Kenya Space Innovation and Investment Forum 2025 open.
