LSK Demands Justice and Accountability Amid Surge in Extrajudicial Killings

By Grace Mwende The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) is calling for urgent action in the wake of a troubling rise in extrajudicial killings, spotlighted by the recent death of Willis Ayieko, the Human Resource Manager at Wells Fargo.  LSK President Faith Odhiambo, addressing the media outside Milimani Law Courts, urged authorities to conduct swift and thorough investigations to bring those responsible to justice and curb the alarming trend. Odhiambo described Ayieko's death as a stark reminder of the ongoing issue of extrajudicial violence in Kenya, stating that such incidents erode public trust in law enforcement and the justice system. The African Council of Religious Leaders – Religions for Peace (ACRL-RfP) and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) held a high-level dialogue today, bringing together senior religious leaders and IGAD Executive Secretary H.E. Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu. The meeting, which emphasized the critical role of religious leaders in governance, conflict resolution, climate adaptation, and sustainable development, culminated in a commitment to formalize collaboration through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). Martha Karua, has delivered a scathing critique of President William Ruto's administration, declaring that the regime "stands impeached" due to its mismanagement of the economy and undermining of healthcare services. Speaking at her residence earlier today, Karua accused the government of enabling shady deals that are detrimental to Kenya's economic stability. Specifically, she highlighted the controversial takeover of the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) by the Adani Group, a deal she claims epitomizes the regime's "economic sabotage." “This regime has sabotaged the economy by allowing questionable deals like the takeover of our national gateway, JKIA, by the Adani group," Karua stated.
