Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) CEO Dr. Kelly Oluoch has addressed claims that the country is sending healthcare workers abroad while their shortage of healthcare providers in the country.

Speaking to opera news the CEO assured Kenyans that the collage is graduating enough health care providers every year for the country to export.

"the institution is able to and has been producing sufficient human resources for health to be employed in the country and export surplus to other countries that do not have the kind of resources that we have in the country," he said

Kmtc in 2023 graduated 22695 and the CEO says the local economy is not able to absorb that kind of workforce, hence the need to send some of this workforce abroad.

"The human resource that we produce in KMTC is competent and marketable the world over and we want to assure the public that we going to continue to produce the best human resources for health in the medical field that can support public health and be able to support the private sector in Kenya and other countries that require public health," he added.

He pointed out that every year the institution has continued to get an increasing number of requests to process verification of certificates for those who have applied for jobs abroad.

According to the CEO in 2021 they received 2800 requests, in 2022,3200 and 3900 in 2023, he notes that this number of applicants continues to increase gradually and this year they expect the number to be much higher because they are receiving close to 250 requests every month.

"We are cognizant of the local needs for human resources for health and that’s why we have continued to offer more opportunities for training in the institution to enable us to keep up with the demands of out-of-the-country and within the country," he said.

Urging students to join the institution, the CEO noted that KMTC is continuously adapting to the demand of the market and is the best institution that is prepared to provide the kind of human resources for health that is required across the world.
