TUM Vice Chancellor Applauds KFCB for Empowering Filmmakers


The Vice-Chancellor, the Technical University of Mombasa (TUM), Professor Leila Abubakar, has lauded the Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) for empowering content creators through the Creatives in Arts and Film Literacy Program (CAFIL).

Speaking during the CAFIL forum at the Technical University of Mombasa on Thursday 26th September 2024, Professor Abubakar said that empowering creatives is key to promoting the creative economy which she said contributes largely to Kenya’s socio-economic development.

“We thank the KFCB and the Sports, Arts and Social Development Fund (SASDF) for initiating the CAFIL program that is focused on helping creatives to showcase and monetize their talents,” she stated.

Professor Abubakar noted that the role of creative arts in the economy cannot be underrated, underscoring the need for stakeholders to work together to spur the growth of the sector.

She further commended the KFCB and other regulators in the Creative economy for developing the Regulators’ Handbook for Film Practitioners in Kenya.
