Labour Cabinet Secretary Florence Bore’s effort to convene a consultative meeting to try and halt a mass gathering of private security guards to demand a minimum monthly salary of KSh30,000 slated for Nairobi on Saturday, March 30 has flopped due lack of attendance by invited stakeholders. In an invitation letter, CS Bore had scheduled the parley for Thursday, March 28, in her office. According to the CS his office has received Intelligence reports that this criminals coordinate their dangerous activities in tala to evade police dragnets. "Some of the criminal gangs terrorising the Nairobi Eastlands, according to credible intelligence are using suburbs of Tala Township to plan their crimes and to debrief," noted Kindiki through his official x account. 258 People Arrested in Kitui County For Selling illicit Brews

Kindiki noted that In the ongoing Nationwide law enforcement program against killer brews, narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, 258 suspects have been arrested and arraigned and several illicit alcohol outlets closed. The CS further said that 15kgs of bhang have been seized, 22 non-compliant pharmacies and 19 non-compliant agrovets shut. Kindiki has called on counties to develop a long-term plan suited for the local dynamics in the fight against illicit alcohol. “For the country to succeed in suppressing the manufacture, distribution, sale and consumption of killer brews, narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, each County has to develop a long-term, sustainable plan that is suited to the local dynamics of the matter,” Kindiki said. PSRA Ordered To Reinstate Licences of Nine Private Security Firms

It is a major setback for the Private Security Regulatory Authority (PSRA) after the Ministry of Interior and National Administration’s Ad Hoc Appeals Committee ordered the regulator to immediately reinstate the licences of nine private security firm’s. PSRA had revoked licences of the nine private securities companies for allegedly failing to comply with minimum wage requirements among other breaches. At the same time, the Appeals Committee quashed Legal Notice NO. PSRA/001/2024 issued by the regulator. “The appeals by the nine (9) companies be and hereby allowed,” reads the order, further barring the 9 firms from filing any law suits for damages in respect to the suspension of the licences by PSRA. Similarly, the Appeals Committee also directed all parties to withdraw any case pending in court regarding the matter. Private Security Stakeholders Take A Swipe At Regulator Over Mass Registration of Security Guards

Private Security Industry stakeholders have taken a swipe at the Private Security Regulatory Authority (PSRA) CEO Fazul Mahamed over his decision to launch the controversial mass registration of private security guards. Private security service providers have called out the PSRA CEO for making a unilateral move that has no legal backing and therefore illegal. The private security service providers have at the same time read mischief in the move by Mr Fazul as a veiled strategy to incite the security guards to demonstrate demanding the controversial KSh30,000 pay hike. In a notice dated March 11, 2024, the Authority said as part of the ongoing efforts to regulate the private security industry, PSRA has initiated a free mass registration exercise for security guards. The registration is scheduled to commence in Nairobi at the Uhuru Park grounds on March 30.
